Intravitreal Administration
Intravitreal administration is a possible drug therapy for the treatment of wet form of age-related maculopathy.
In many cases, the administration of the drug makes it possible to block or slow down the progress of the disease, thus preserving the ability to see for a long time.
Intravitreal administration drug therapy (inhibitors of vascular growth factors, a-VEGFs) consists of the injection of the drug directly into the vitreous chamber. There are several a-VEGF drugs, with different action and duration, selected according to the characteristics of the disease. The procedure is carried out on an outpatient basis.
Pre- and post-treatment with Intravitreal Administration Examinations
Prior to treatment, the state of the retina is analysed by evaluating the anterior segment of the eye and an ocular fundus examination. If these tests reveal any abnormalities, it is necessary to continue with specific in-depth tests (optical coherence tomography – OCT, retinal fluorangiography – FAG, indocyanine green angiography – ICG, OCT angiography).
After administration, monthly examinations (OCT and OCT-A) are scheduled to monitor the progression of the disease and the effectiveness of treatment.
Recovery Time After Intravitreal Administration
Recovery times vary depending on the severity of the injury and are indicated by the ophthalmologist during the examination.
